Accessibility & prescription status

In Cyprus, LNG EC was available over the counter from pharmacies. However, since the beginning of 2013, there has been no LNG EC product available in Cyprus due to the financial crisis in the region, which affected imports. Since 2015 UPA EC is available without prescription from pharmacies.

Physicians are the sole health care professionals who are authorized to provide or prescribe LNG or UPA EC.

Guidelines & common practices

Health care providers often provide information about contraception, but rarely provide general information about EC during regular consultations or prescribe EC in advance of need. Health care providers often do not require a pelvic exam before prescribing EC.
