Accessibility & prescription status
In Azerbaijan, LNG EC is available behind the counter from pharmacies, which means that EC is available without a prescription but is not on the shelves and needs to be requested in order to purchase. A prescription is required to buy regular contraceptive pills to resource to the Yuzpe method.
Physicians are the sole health care professionals who are authorized to prescribe the Yuzpe method, while both physicians and pharmacists can provide LNG EC.

Guidelines & common practices
Azerbaijan issued Reproduktiv sağlamlıq / Ailə planlaşdırılması üzrə klinik protokollar (National Reproductive Health/Family Planning Clinical Protocol) in 2009, which provides recommendations on LNG EC and the use of IUD for EC.
Health care providers rarely provide general information about EC during regular consultations and never provide EC in advance of need. Pregnancy tests and pelvic exams are not required before obtaining EC.
