Physicians are the sole health care professionals who are authorized to prescribe or provide LNG EC, UPA EC, and the Yuzpe method.

Guidelines & common practices

There are guidelines in Tajikistan that are dedicated exclusively to EC, and they include recommendations on LNG EC, UPA EC, and the use of IUD for EC. Tajikistan also uses the World Health Organization’s “Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use” as guidelines for EC.

Health care providers often provide general information about EC during regular consultations and sometimes prescribe EC in advance of need. Health care providers sometimes require a pregnancy test and a pelvic exam before prescribing EC.
