Webinar: Expanding access to oral contraceptives through regulatory change

The European Consortium for Emergency Contraception (ECEC) and Free the Pill, a project of Ibis Reproductive Health, are convening a webinar on how regulatory change can expand access to oral contraceptives.

Recent regulatory changes in the United States and the United Kingdom have opened new pathways for access to oral contraceptive pills without a prescription. What can be learned from these experiences, and what opportunities and challenges do they present for Europe?

The webinar will bring together experts from the advocacy, regulatory, research and private sectors to discuss:

  • the safety and effectiveness of oral contraceptive pills and the rationale for over-the-counter (OTC) access;
  • the current accessibility of progestin-only pills in Europe;
  • the regulatory pathways that led to OTC approval in the United States and the United Kingdom;
  • the role of the private sector in regulatory transitions;
  • opportunities and challenges for bringing OTC contraceptives to European markets; and
  • how access and impact can be monitored following a switch to non-prescription availability.

Speakers include Kelly Blanchard and Victoria Nichols from Ibis Reproductive Health/Free the Pill; Lena Luyckfasseel from IPPF European Network; Jenny Davies from Maxwellia, UK; Alison Slingsby from Perrigo; and Christelle Anquez-Traxler from the Association of the European Self-Care Industry (AESGP).

The webinar will conclude with a discussion and Q&A.
