USA:  Despite being associated with pain, use of IUD increases

December 2023. According to the latest report on use of contraceptive methods by The National Health Statistics, in the United States of America the use of intrauterine devices (IUDs) has tripled since 2006: from 7.7% to more than 21% in the period 2015- 2019. The New York Times just published an article about the lack of solutions offered to relief the pain of IUD insertion. A team from Duke University analyzed the top 100 videos tagged with the hashtag “IUD” on TikTok finding that 96,8% of the videos presenting a patient’s experience, mostly highlighted the pain of insertion or removal procedures, and other negative side effects.
