Europe: Youth Contraceptive Awareness Study 2024

May 2025. Last January the European Parliamentary Forum for Sexual & Reproductive Rights (EPF) published the findings of the Youth Contraceptive Awareness Study. The study looked into contraceptive awareness, usage, and associated barriers among youth aged 18–30 across 14 European Union countries and Canada and was conducted with support from Organon in September 2024.

The study’s main findings highlight that awareness of condoms and birth control pills is high, but knowledge and use of Long-Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCs)—such as IUDs, implants, and injections—remain low. Misconceptions and limited sexual education, especially in culturally restrictive settings, are key barriers. The internet and healthcare providers (HCPs) are the primary information sources, but HCPs often fail to discuss LARC methods. The study calls for targeted policy efforts to improve access and strengthen youth-focused contraceptive education.
