Global availability of UPA for emergency contraception and mifepristone for medical abortion
December 2025. ECEC and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) have come together to merge their data on mifepristone for medical abortion and ulipristal acetate (UPA) for emergency contraception, with the aim of shedding light on the actual global availability of these essential medicines.
A summary of this joint analysis has now been published in The European Journal of Contraception & Reproductive Health Care: Letter to the editor: Global availability of mifepristone for medical abortion and ulipristal acetate for emergency contraception.
We hope this information will help inform research and policy efforts to preserve and expand equitable access to post-coital contraception and safe abortion options worldwide.
